Adseal (Meta Biomed, South Korea) – is a high-quality, two-component endodontic sealer (cement) based on an epoxy-amine resin. It is designed for the permanent, hermetic obturation (sealing) of the root canal system in combination with gutta-percha points. Adseal is known for its excellent sealing ability, biocompatibility, and ease of use.
Core Technology and Composition
Adseal is a Resin-based sealer class. It consists of two pastes (Base and Catalyst) that are mixed immediately before use:
-
Base: Contains epoxy oligomer resin, glycol salicylate, and radiopaque fillers (e.g., Zirconium Oxide).
-
Catalyst: Contains aminoalkylamine and radiopaque fillers.
Mechanism of Action: Upon mixing, a polymerization reaction occurs, resulting in the formation of a dense, chemically stable polymer that ensures long-lasting and reliable sealing.
Unique Features and Advantages
-
Excellent Sealing Ability: Epoxy resin has the characteristic of minimal shrinkage during polymerization. This is critically important as it prevents the formation of microscopic gaps between the dentin wall, gutta-percha, and the sealer, which is the main cause of re-infection (percolation).
-
Good Flowability: Adseal has an optimal consistency that allows it to easily penetrate lateral and accessory canals and dentinal tubules. This significantly enhances the quality of obturation across the entire root canal system.
-
High Radiopacity: Thanks to the fillers, the paste is clearly visualized on radiographs. This allows for control over the completeness of the root canal filling.
-
Biocompatibility and Absence of Mutagenic Effects: After complete setting, Adseal is neutral and does not cause toxic reactions with periapical tissues.
-
Convenient Mixing System (Double Paste Syringe): Supplied in a special dual syringe with automated mixing tips. This ensures the ideal component ratio and minimizes the risk of error from manual mixing, while also reducing material waste.
-
Long Working Time: Provides sufficient time (typically about 30-40 minutes) for comfortable work, placement of gutta-percha points, and proper condensation.
Indications for Use
-
Permanent obturation of root canals in endodontic treatment in combination with gutta-percha (lateral and vertical condensation techniques).
-
Used as a sealer for root apex sealing.
