Liquides 3% (Latus/Латус Manufacturer) – Sodium Hypochlorite Endodontic Irrigant
Liquides 3% (Latus manufacturer) is a highly effective endodontic irrigant based on 3% Sodium Hypochlorite ($\text{NaOCl}$), specifically developed for the comprehensive treatment of root canals during dental procedures. The $3\%$ concentration is a golden mean, providing potent disinfection with a moderate risk of periapical tissue damage compared to higher concentrations.
Active Ingredient and Mechanism of Action
The main component of the preparation is $3\%$ Sodium Hypochlorite. Its action is based on two key mechanisms:
-
Lytic (Dissolving) Action: It effectively dissolves organic debris: necrotic (dead, infected, or decomposed pulp tissue) and vital pulp (living pulp tissue), dentin shavings, and biofilm. This is critical for the complete cleaning of the root canal system, including lateral and accessory canals.
-
Antimicrobial and Disinfecting Action: It releases chlorine, which acts as a powerful oxidizing agent, destroying the cell walls and proteins of bacteria, fungi, and viruses. This ensures deep sterilization of the canal before obturation.
Advantages of Using Liquides 3%
-
Optimal Concentration: $3\%$ is a compromise between potent disinfection (like $5.25\%$ or $4\%$) and increased biocompatibility (compared to lower concentrations like $2\%$ or $1\%$).
-
Effective Smear Layer Removal: It facilitates better penetration of other irrigation solutions (e.g., EDTA for the removal of the inorganic layer) and ensures quality adhesion of the filling material to the dentin.
-
High Penetration: Due to its low surface tension, the solution effectively penetrates narrow and hard-to-reach areas of the root canal system.
-
Ease of Use: The $215 \text{ g}$ bottle complete with a dosing syringe allows for precise control over the volume of irrigant delivered, ensuring safety and material efficiency.
Indications for Use
Liquides 3% is used in endodontics:
-
For chemo-mechanical preparation and cleaning of root canals.
-
As an antiseptic for canal irrigation in cases of pulpitis and periodontitis.
-
For dissolving organic debris and removing biofilm.
Cautionary Note
Important: When using Sodium Hypochlorite (Liquides 3%) and another popular irrigant, Chlorhexidine Bigluconate, it is absolutely necessary to flush the root canal with saline solution (physiological solution) between their applications. This prevents the formation of a brown precipitate, which can impair the sealing (obturation) of the canal.
